Your Outdoor Photos: May 2024

The Inland Northwest is full of flora, fauna, waters, scenery and active people out to savor it all. Please visit this gallery regularly to share photos of your wild experiences, learning moments, hot discoveries, favorite trips. Help us build a visual tour of what's so great about the outdoors in this region through all four seasons. This photo gallery will be an inspiration to some people. To others it will be a reminder of why we love to live here – and get outside as much as possible.

NOTE: Before photos show up in the reader photo gallery, they must be approved by an editor. If yours does not show up immediately, fear not. The only likely delay is that an editor has not had a chance to approve new photo submissions yet. Thanks for participating!

  • This was taken near Spangle, WA looking straight up on 10 May 2024. It was taken with a wide angle lens and I only edited contrast and brightness. The charged particles from the sun are coming right down at you and appear to radiate from the center making it look like a large eye. The patterns change quite rapidly. The line of from over power lines.

  • A Clark's grebe comes in close for me to get at photo of it they differ from the Western grebe in that the bright eye is in the white part of their face instead of up in the black portion of their face lucky for me to get to see it up close. Taken May 7 2024 Malheur wildlife refuge.

  • An adult male Yellow Headed Blackbird was in the middle of his chainsaw display call when an appetizing little insect made a flyby. These amazing avian species bring spring right along with them when they return to Saltese Flats.
