These photos, taken by Spokane resident Tom Drennon, show Priest Lake residents rescuing a 700-pound moose that broke through the ice on the lake on New Year's Day 2009.

Residents help a 700-pound moose that broke through the ice on Priest Lake on New Year's Day. The female yearling was limp by the time it was hoisted out of the water. Residents covered the moose with blankets, fed it sugar water and oatmeal and massaged it back to life. About 8 hours after it was first spotted struggling in the water, the moose took off for the woods.
