WSU fashionably late to Phoenix

COUGARS

Now that the Washington State football team has made it to Arizona – we have more on the link – we feel ready to put up an evening post. Read on.
••••••••••

• Fog in Pullman. Well, low clouds. If anyone asks, that's why the WSU football team arrived in Phoenix around 7 p.m. The low visibility made it impossible for the charter to land in Pullman, so the entire entourage bused to Spokane and flew from there. Luckily, the day-before-the-game walk through had been scheduled for Pullman this week, so that was done before the buses rolled. ... As for stories to read, we have our advance for tomorrow's paper, featuring a look at the idea that, after the Long March of the past three weeks, Arizona State is a little – put quotes around little – easier opponent. ... By the way, the hotel I'm staying at is perfect. There's an In-N-Out within walking distance. Is this heaven? With the heat, I know it's not Iowa. ... Bud Withers – as I look at the link, it says Bob Withers on the bottom, which is an appalling lack of respect for an elder statesman of Washington journalism – put together his matchup box on the Cougar game. ... ESPN.com's Ted Miller has some facts he wonders if you knew. ... Finally, I was doing a piece for our basketball preview section and I almost wrote, for the Kansas State game, it would be the final WSU contest in the Pac-10/Big 12 Hardwood Series, but I couldn't get anyone to confirm what I had heard. It's been confirmed.

• That's all for now. I'm going for a walk. And yes, I "might" end up at In-N-Out. We'll be back in the morning with our usual post. Until then ...
