WSU returns to practice after time off

COUGARS

OK, we're going to do some whining here. My toes seemed to disappear about an hour into Washington State's football practice. The Cougar, who had five days off after defeating Oregon State last Saturday, returned to practice tonight in full pads and with full intensity. But man was it cold. For more, read on.
••••••••••

• The one thing any coach wants is to get through a full-pad, full-contact practice – like the Cougars had Friday – without any injuries. Paul Wulff wasn't that lucky. Left tackle John Fullington rolled his left ankle about 3/4 of the way through practice and limped off. He watched the rest of the practice with the ankle iced. As an aside, it seemed cold enough that the ice might have been redundant, but maybe that's just me. ... Left guard Wade Jacobson was already not practicing, having tweaked his back against OSU. He was replaced by Chris Prummer. Both Jacobson and Fullington are expected back by Apple Cup. ... Sekope Kaufusi was not at practice. Wulff said it had to do with family obligations. ... Alex Hoffman-Ellis suited up, did a couple drills, then called it a day, keeping his body fresh. ... Otherwise everyone that could be expected to practice did, though Gino Simone was in a yellow jersey. ... There was a lot of team work, with the offense getting the better of it. The best play of the night, though, was turned in by cornerback Aire Justin, who covered a lot of ground late to knock away a sure touchdown pass from Jeff Tuel to Marquess Wilson. ... The official temperature – I kept checking the Weather Channel on my iPhone – was 31 degrees. But it sure seemed colder than that. One of the assistant coaches walked by as I was trying to warm up and said "You've got a great job ... until November." He laughed. Me? My cheeks wouldn't move. ... WSU gets back at it tomorrow morning at 9, so we'll be back at it then.

• That's all for now. We'll be back in the morning with our usual post. Until then ...
