WSU leads 37-29 at half

COUGARS

For about 14 minutes, the guy in the 27th row was sound asleep. He woke up late in the second half to scream at the Bruins, saying "this is as bad as last year." He was exaggerating, but for a quick stretch late in the half, not by much. The Bruins were putrid on offense and Washington State, like it can, scored 13 points in a blink. It went from being 22-18 UCLA to 33-22 WSU in less than 4 minutes. ... Klay Thompson, guarded tightly by Malcolm Lee, put the ball on the floor more often than I can remember in the past three years. He finished the half with 14 points, six on free throws (driving) and six on 3-pointers in transition. ... Faisal Aden come off the bench to score nine. ... The strangest stat of the first half was rebounds. WSU has 20, UCLA 12. Coming in, the Bruins were plus-5 in margin and WSU? Well the Cougars, they were in the negative category by one. Josh Smith has three fouls, the last on a charge when DeAngelo Casto took a page out of Matt Howard's playbook – or his own – and hit the floor hard on a post move. ... Lee has 13 for UCLA, hitting the only two 3-pointers. ... We'll be back about an hour after the game is over.
