‘It’s a security thing’

Jasmine Linabary, a Whitworth University student who will be attending the swearing in ceremony with other students on Jan Term, said they've been told cell phone's won't be working Tuesday in the D.C. area. Students who attended events on Sunday said cell service was down...

"We've heard that they plan on shutting down cell phone service in most of the D.C. area on Tuesday. Those who attended the kick-off ceremony and concert today said cell phone service was down. So texting from the ceremony will likely not be an option, though we will still try to do what we can," she wrote in an e-mail.

In a phone conversation Monday, she added: "It's a security thing from what we understand.

"We're standing next to the Capitol Building. There are a fair amount of people here right now. . . some are walking through the mall, asking where they'll be able to stand tomorrow."

Those without tickets are being told they'll be far back.
