A head-on collision killed two people Monday afternoon on Interstate 90 near Moses Lake, blocking eastbound traffic for several hours.

The Washington State Patrol identified the deceased as Emanuel G. Schaible, 87, of Moses Lake, and Robert J. Miller, 59, of Auburn.

Schaible was driving west in the inside, eastbound lane of I-90 when his Hyundai crossover vehicle collided with an eastbound Chevy cargo van driven by Miller at about 2:30 p.m., the WSP said.

The WSP said Miller was wearing a seatbelt while Schaible was not. Trooper John Bryant said the investigation was ongoing Monday evening.

The wrecked vehicles blocked the eastbound lanes of I-90 at state Route 17 until about 6:30 p.m. A frontage road was used as a detour.
