Profit over care
As a 30-year healthcare worker at Sacred Heart, I spoke from experience when I got up at City Hall on Nov. 18 and told our elected officials about the treatment we face by Providence.
For years we have taken care of our patients with the philosophy of ‘Know me, Care for me, Ease my way,” and I have been assured by management that those words applied to staff and patients alike. Since the change from Sacred Heart Medical Center to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center I have felt that sentiment evaporate.
The 100 plus years of work and influence of the Sisters of Providence has, in my opinion, been replaced by a corporate mindset. We are constantly asked to do more with less. Less time with our patients, staffing levels that at times tax all of our abilities and increasingly unsafe working conditions. On Monday night I asked our City Council, and now I ask you, readers of this paper, to please tell Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center to return to the table and bargain with us in good faith.
