Classifieds newspaper The Exchange operating from new location

The Exchange, a free, weekly classifieds newspaper, recently moved from a building it has occupied for more than 20 years in downtown Spokane to a new space.

Publisher Barbara Powers purchased a building at 5111 E. Trent Ave. in May and the paper moved its operations to the new location June 24, said Helen Boyd-Schwartz, general manager for Exchange Publishing LLC.

Schwartz said the new building provides the newspaper with more room than its previous leased office at 304 W. Third Ave.

“It’s a good location for our customer base,” she said, adding the newspaper is well-known for its equipment and real estate listings.

The Exchange was founded by Patrick Powers and Aaron Spurway in 1978. After Spurway retired in 2015 and Patrick Powers died in 2016, Barbara Powers, Patrick’s wife, assumed the role as the newspaper’s publisher.

The Exchange is distributed regionally throughout Eastern Washington and North Idaho. It also publishes the quarterly horse and ranch magazine Horse Previews. Additionally, the newspaper produces various show guides, programs and catalogs for its clients.
