Stuckart straight outta Seattle

In response to: “Seattle’s politics and problems play role in Spokane mayoral election” (Aug. 11; reprinted in Seattle Times)

Isn’t that rich!

The second-place finisher and author of Spokane’s “sanctuary” ordinance now hectors the proponents of homeless tent cleanups: “the mayor doesn’t get to decide that [federal law] doesn’t matter.”

Yet, despite his craving to be viewed as provincial, Ben Stuckart looks to me like he’s straight outta Seattle. His “immigration status information” legislation of 2014 apes Seattle’s long-standing policy of proclaiming federal law “doesn’t matter.” Aside from him scratching and clawing for every last federal dime of law enforcement grant money.

Then there’s Stuckart’s 2018 sponsorship of ORD C35681, which obstructed federal inspection for interstate fugitives and international border jumpers who pass through the city’s bus terminal.

No wonder Spokane voters are uncomfortable graduating Stuckart to authorities above those he now trifles with at the “student council” level.
