Spokane Valley police searching for van driver who approached girl

Spokane Valley police are asking for the public’s help finding a man who allegedly approached a 9-year-old girl in his minivan and ordered her to “get in.”

Spokane Valley Deputies responded about 5:40 p.m. Wednesday to the suspicious activity on the 8700 block of East Alki Avenue. A girl was waiting for another child to cross the street when the man stopped and told her he knew her, Spokane Valley police said in a news release. The man then drove away without saying anything else or getting out of his white boxy minivan.

The girl described the man as white and in his early 20s, with dirty or greasy shoulder-length blond hair, according to a news release from the Spokane Valley Police Department. The girl said he clenched his teeth and his face was flushed and covered in acne, according to the statement.

The girl and her mother, who saw the incident, told police they had seen the minivan around the neighborhood but didn’t know the man.
