No U.S. leadership
Once again mass murder stalks our society. Finally, President Trump condemns the violence being perpetrated by white supremacists and other racists. The big question is, will he follow up on these statements and proposals or will he again revert to the real estate developer who manages instead of being the leader of the greatest country on the planet?
For two-and-a-half years the president has routinely told people to do certain things and then expects his staff to carry out these directives without further guidance. He exhibits a profound lack of political imagination. A manager sits on his rear end and doesn’t check on what’s being done. A real leader gets out in front and demands that everyone “Follow me!”
In fairness, it is not just the president who is a lousy leader. Reps. Pelosi and McCarthy as well as Sens. McConnell and Schumer have not exhibited any significant leadership skills lately either. Perhaps it is indicative of the sorry state of the Democratic and Republican parties today. All the party heads are interested in is destroying the other party. The welfare of the people of the United States seems to be an afterthought to them.
The president must get out in front and lead. But that would require thoughtfulness and courage, if he has them.
