Idaho defensive back Kyree Curington arrested after report of on-campus rape, suspended from UI team

A University of Idaho football player was arrested Saturday after police received a report of an on-campus rape, the Lewiston Tribune reported.

A warrant was issued for the arrest of freshman Kyree Curington after police say an alleged sex offense occurred at the university’s Wallace dormitories early Friday morning, the Tribune reported. Curington faces a rape charge, according to the Latah County Jail roster, and UI announced his suspension from the team Saturday night.

A parent of the alleged victim made a call at about 5 a.m. Friday morning from California, “advising possibly sexual assault,” according to the Moscow Police Department’s daily log.

“Kyree Curington has been suspended indefinitely from the football team while the university investigates an alleged incident on campus as it relates to the Student Code of Conduct,” according to a statement from UI reported by The Argonaut. “This is in addition to any investigation the Moscow Police Department is conducting.”

The freshman defensive back was booked into the Latah County Jail on Saturday afternoon. His bail is set at $75,000.

Curington was previously charged with two counts of battery in his role in a Bourbon Street brawl in New Orleans, but prosecutors dropped the charges in June. He, along with two other Holy Cross School graduates, were filmed fighting a group of older men in October 2017. Witnesses say the fight between the recent graduates and two tourists occurred after the older men, who were white, threw bottles and used racial slurs.

Curington, once a standout on the Holy Cross team, is at UI on a scholarship. He was ineligible to enroll at UI until prosecutors dropped the charges on June 28, one week before he began practicing with Idaho.
