BILLINGS, Mont. – An investigation is underway after a man’s body was found at the bottom of a mine pit in southeastern Montana.

Rosebud County Sheriff Allen Fulton said an employee at the Rosebud Mine near Colstrip found the body Thursday morning, and foul play was not suspected, the Billings Gazette reported. An autopsy was planned for Friday.

Fulton said it didn’t appear to be an employee, and investigators had an idea of who it might be. The body had been there for a while.

No other information was released.
