Vancouver scores early, often to down Spokane Indians

From staff reports

VANCOUVER, B.C. – Bryan Lizardo’s three-run double ignited a six-run second inning and the Vancouver Canadians (7-3) beat the Spokane Indians (3-7) 10-4 on Saturday night in Northwest League action.

Canadians starter Donnie Sellers pitched just two innings, but the bullpen picked him up and combined to limit the Indians to nine hits, four runs, and no walks with four strikeouts.

Indians starter Alex Speas set down three in a row to work out of a bases loaded, no out situation in the first inning after two errors behind him.

In the bottom of the second, Speas retired two before walking four consecutive Canadians for an early 1-0 deficit.

Reliever Argenis Rodriguez took over for Speas after the run-scoring walk and promptly surrendered back-to-back doubles to extend the Vancouver lead to 5-0 in the second.

Canadians first baseman Kacy Clemens singled to continue the rally and improved the Vancouver lead to 6-0.

The Indians responded in the third inning. Kobie Taylor hit a two-out double, which was followed by three more hits to cut the Vancouver lead to 6-2.

The next run came in the seventh inning, as Vancouver outfielder Brock Lundquist hit an RBI triple and later scored on a single by Lizardo.

Spokane put up further resistance in the eighth inning with a two-run double by third baseman Andretty Cordero to score Miguel Aparicio and Clayton Middleton.

Vancouver matched Spokane’s two runs with two of their own in the bottom of the eighth inning. Norberto Obesa led off the eighth with a single and scored on an RBI double and shortstop Kevin Vicuna contributed an RBI single to raise the Canadians lead to 10-4.

The teams face-off for the third and final game of the series on Sunday at 1:05 pm.
