Whitworth baseball crushes Lewis & Clark
PORTLAND – Whitworth unloaded a season-high 16 hits, including Matt Nelson’s second home run in as many games, in cruising to a 13-3 Northwest Conference baseball win over Lewis & Clark on Monday night.
Nick Motsinger and Jeremy Druffel each had three hits and Justin Liu drove in a season-high three runs as the Pirates (8-18, 5-10 NWC) scored a season high in runs in taking the rubber game of the three-game series from the Pioneers (9-17-1, 3-12).
The Pirates broke up a 1-1 pitchers’ duel with a six-run fifth inning. Whitworth starter Spencer Ansett (2-2) allowed just one run on four hits in seven innings to collect the win.
