Rankin guides EV to win over Mt. Spokane

Alex Rankin scored 14 points and added seven rebounds and eight steals as the East Valley girls basketball team jumped out to an 18-8 first quarter lead en route to a 54-38 nonleague victory over Mt. Spokane Friday night at East Valley.

Rankin also hit two 3-pointers and Jordan Phelan added eight points and eight rebounds for EV (2-0).

The Wildcats (0-2) were led by Isabella Allard, Dallas Flager and Megan Nilson with eight points apiece.

Lewiston 45, Hermiston 36: Cali Moscrip scored 11 points as the Benglas (4-0) won at Hermiston, Ore. Lynzee Wilson and Emilee Schlader each scored 10 for the Bengals.

Pendleton 50, Sandpoint 34: The Buckaroos built a 15-point first-half lead and went on to beat the Bulldogs (2-4) in Pendleton, Ore. Emma Liband and Hailey Olin led the Bulldogs with nine points each.

Colville 51, Reardan 24: Sadie Learn scored 22 points and pulled down six rebounds as Colville (2-0) coasted past defending State 2B champion Reardan (0-1) in Colville. Colville outscored Reardan 31-4 in the middle two quarters. Reardan, which lost several key players to graduation, got nine points from Maddie Johnson.

Medical Lake 41, Deer Park 32: Annette Carlson had 12 points, 12 rebounds and five steals to guide the Cardinals (1-1) past the visiting Stags (0-2). Medical Lake outscored Deer Park 14-4 in the first quarter and led by 16 points at the half.

Lakeside (WA) 60, Priest River 37: Sisters Ashley and Jocelyn Cook-Cox led the way for the Eagles (1-0), scoring 18 and 11 points, respectively, in Lakeside’s win over the Spartans (2-2) in Nine Mile Falls. Lakeside forced 27 turnovers, which led to easy buckets in the first half. Jill Weimer was the top scorer for Priest River with 13 points.

Springdale 42, Chewelah 41: Emily Sulgrove hit the game-winning free throw with a minute remaining as the Chargers (1-2) came from behind to beat the host Cougars (0-2). Chewelah jumped out to a 29-22 halftime lead behind Kaitlin Krouse and Sydnie Katzer, who both had 11 points. But Springdale (1-2) rallied, with Eilish Smith (14 points) and McKinsey Schurger (10) carrying the offense. In a rugged fourth quarter, neither team could muster a made field goal, but the Chargers outshot the Cougars from the line to claim their first win.

Ellensburg 50, Pullman 27: The Bulldogs built an 11-point halftime lead and eased past the Greyhounds (0-1) in Yakima. Emily Drake tallied a team-high 12 points for Pullman.

Clarkston 79, Mountain View 47: Clarkston (1-0) raced out to a 49-13 halftime lead and cruised past Mountain View (Bend, Ore.) in Pendleton, Ore. Sequoia Swan scored 19 points and Jayd Eke 12 for Clarkston.

Newport 36, St. George’s 29: Hadley Stratton recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 boards, and Holly Malsbury led all scorers with 14 points as the Grizzlies (2-0) edged the visiting Dragons (1-1). St. George’s led 22-21 after three quarters before Newport went on an 11-0 run to begin the fourth.

Davenport 70, Almira/Coulee-Hartline 41: Morgan Abbott scored 16 points and pulled down 16 rebounds as the Gorillas (1-1) routed the visiting Warriors (0-1). Allison Johnson added 13 points for Davenport, which built a 17-point halftime lead. ACH was led by Reinnee Rocket’s 14 points.

Colfax 62, St. John-Endicott 30: Scout Kai scored 10 points and added seven rebounds as the Bulldogs (1-0) defeated the visiting Eagles (0-1). Amara Huber added eight rebounds and seven points in the win. St. John-Endicott was led by Sami Bailey’s 10 points.

Columbia 44, Northport 35: Payton Wynne led the Lions with 19 points and 10 rebounds, and Columbia (1-0) edged the host Mustangs (0-2). Wynne scored 14 of her 19 points in the third quarter. Asia Kieffer added 15 points for Columbia.

Wilbur-Creston 73, Liberty 47: The Wildcats (1-0) jumped out to a 22-8 first-quarter lead cruised past the visiting Lancers (0-1). Jessica Boyer scored 24 points and Kaelee Reed added 18 points and eight rebounds for Wilbur-Creston.

Republic 57, Odessa-Harrington 40: Shania Graham had 18 points, eight assists and seven rebounds as the Tigers (1-0) surged in the fourth to beat the visiting Titans (0-1). Makenna Weltz had 17 points and 14 rebounds and Sierra McQuay added 12 points and 13 boards for Republic, which turned a close game into a rout by outscoring Odessa-Harrington 20-4 in the final quarter.

Jordan Tanke led the Titans with 13 points, including three 3-pointers.

Lakeside (ID) 55, Valley Christian 18: Kim Duncan had 10 points, five rebounds and four steals as the Knights (1-0) opened the game on an 18-0 run and coasted past the Panthers (0-1) in Plummer.
