Cold front brings showers; warmup in sight

A cold front passing over the Inland Northwest today has brought several rounds of showers with some locations seeing moderate to heavy rain. The National Weather Service warned about a line of thunderstorms moving eastward along Interstate 90 between Spokane and Coeur d’Alene at 3:30 p.m. and continuing until about 4:30 p.m. Felts Field in East Spokane got a quarter inch of rain in less than hour prior to 4 p.m. and a total of about 0.38 inches through late afternoon. Spokane International Airport had a tenth of an inch during the afternoon. Forecasters said the cool air that will linger behind the front will give way to warmer conditions under higher air pressure starting Tuesday. A high of only 49 is expected in Spokane today. That’s nine degrees below today’s normal of 58. Saturday’s high was 60. Snow was being forecast for the mountains of North Idaho. Wet snow was visible on traffic cameras alongside Interstate 90 at Lookout Pass. Sunny skies start on Monday, and the high will get back to 60 on Tuesday going to 65 on Wednesday and about 68 on Thursday and Friday. The mild spring weather should hold through next Saturday. Lows will range from the upper 20s tonight and Monday night to the 30s and then lower 40s by the end of the week as the milder air replaces the cool conditions.
