When you wash your hands in a public restroom (that’s when, not if), you’re often faced with a choice: air dryer or paper towel? According to a new study, drying hands with paper towels does a better job than the machines of getting rid of lingering bacteria – though the towels themselves can spread germs if not disposed of properly.

Wondering whether 12-month furnace filters are worth the extra cost? If they fit into a standard 1-inch slot, they’ll probably get too dirty before their time is up to do much good, according to Xcel Energy; they would need to be 3 to 4 inches deep to last that long, which means duct modifications. You’re better off checking your regular filter every month and changing it every three months.
