CdA woman in critical condition after I-90 rollover

A Coeur d’Alene woman is in critical condition this morning at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane after she rolled her Pontiac Sunfire on Interstate 90 near Liberty Lake on Monday night. Jessica M. Derosie, 20, was headed east on I-90 when her vehicle left the roadway to the left, going through a cable barrier into the median and then rolling, which ejected Derosie. She was not wearing a seat belt, Washington State Patrol troopers said. The vehicle came to rest on its top. The 9:20 p.m. accident closed I-90 while a Northwest Medstar helicopter evacuated her to the hospital. Troopers said the accident was caused by excessive speed. Drugs or alcohol were not involved, they said. Al Gilson, spokesman for the state Department of Transportation in Spokane, said a high-tension cable barrier installed over the past decade worked during the accident as designed - it slowed the force of the vehicle sufficiently to keep it within the median and out of the oncoming lanes of travel. The cable is designed to stretch and slow a vehicle’s force while posts near the point of impact break free from the ground, which occurred during the accident, he said.
