Munson will run for re-election
Spokane Valley Mayor Rich Munson announced this week that he will run for re-election this fall.
Munson, now in his second term on the council, has been mayor since January 2008. The city council votes on which member to elevate to the position of mayor.
Munson said he struggled with the decision whether to run again, but was pushed toward re-election by the ongoing disputes with Spokane County over the snow plowing contract and other issues.
“There’s just so much to do yet,” he said. “I think the city needs the expertise I can give. I think I bring a lot to the table.”
Munson’s term as mayor ends in December and the council will pick a mayor for the next two years in January, which might or might not be Munson. He said he expects this term to be his last, however. “I’m 66 years old,” he said. “I’ll be 71 at the end of this term if I win.”
