In brief: Motorcycle show at Rathdrum park

Budweiser is inviting local motorcycle enthusiasts to “Cool Your Pipes” at the second annual North Idaho Budweiser Motorcycle Show and Sale, July 20 through 22, at Rathdrum City Park.

Bike games and a bike contest will be held at 2 p.m. on July 21. Trophies will be awarded to winners of the Shiniest, Oldest, Most Unique and Ugliest bikes. Live music will entertain throughout the weekend, with Bill Boddy on Friday, Rattletrap on Saturday and Sunday Blood Born on Sunday. Vendors will offer motorcycle-related goods, air-brushed tattoos, and jewelry.

Budweiser will sponsor a beer garden with all proceeds going to OASIS, a nonprofit organization that serves to protect women and children from domestic violence. Food vendors include Mexican cuisine, chicken fried steaks, barbecued pizza and the all-American hot dogs and hamburgers. There is no charge to customers or vendors.

Post Falls

Food Bank marks 20th year

The Post Falls Food Bank will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a free reception and open house from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at 415 E. Third Ave. headquarters. The public is invited. Refreshments will be served.

A nonprofit, the food bank helps feed and provide support for those around the region most in need. Recipients must meet federal income guidelines.

The organization partners with many others in the community to also provide coats for kids, hats and gloves to children and seniors, referrals to other agencies, vouchers for bus fares and medicine, school supplies, seeds in spring and much more.

KEC awards grants

A half-dozen regional service organizations will share more than $11,000 in grants from the Kootenai Electric Cooperative trust.

The utility regularly distributes money through its Operation Round Up Trust.

“Lifelines will receive $1,000 to help offset installation fees for clients on fixed incomes.

“Rathdrum/Westwood Historical Society, $2,500 for security screens to be installed on old county jail’s windows.

“Inland Northwest Blood Center, $2,500 to sponsor the new Life Saver 3 donor coach.

“The Girl Scouts Inland Empire Council, $2,094 for Camp Four Echos’ food freezers.

“Specialized Needs Recreation, $1,400 for a large copy machine and some recreational items.

“ICARE, $2,000 for materials used to help reduce and prevent child abuse.

The next grant applications are due by Aug. 6 in the KEC office. Applications are available from the cooperative’s office or on the KEC Web site at www.kec.com.

Utility users’ participation in Operation Round Up is voluntary.
