Shootout win ends Bruins’ three-game skid
Marco Sturm scored the lone goal in the shootout to lift Boston to a 3-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Monday in Boston, snapping the Bruins’ three-game losing streak.
Ryan Miller stopped 35 shots for Buffalo, including an exceptional diving save with his stick on a shot by Paul Mara late in the second period. But he couldn’t get his stick on Sturm’s shot in the shootout.
Lightning 4, Islanders 3: At Uniondale, N.Y., Martin St. Louis, Vincent Lecavalier and Brad Richards each had a goal and an assist to lead Tampa Bay past New York.
Johan Holmqvist stopped 33 shots for his third straight win against New York.
Stars 3, Kings 1: At Dallas, Stu Barnes and Niklas Hagman scored power-play goals, and Marty Turco stopped 20 shots to help Dallas top Los Angeles.
Trevor Daley added a goal, and Mike Ribeiro had two assists for Dallas.
Coyotes 5, Blues 4 (SO): At Glendale, Ariz., Ladislav Nagy scored the deciding goal in a shootout to give Phoenix a victory over St. Louis.
Ed Jovanovski scored twice and had an assist for Phoenix, and nearly won the game in overtime when his shot careened off the crossbar with less than a minute to play.
Predators 5, Flames 3: At Nashville, Tenn., David Legwand and Martin Erat each had a goal and an assist, lifting Nashville to a win over Calgary.
Scott Hartnell, Jason Arnott and Ryan Suter also scored for Nashville.
Red Wings 2, Canadiens 0: At Detroit, Dominik Hasek made 23 saves to earn his sixth shutout this season and the 74th of his career in Detroit’s win over Montreal.
Jiri Hudler and Pavel Datsyuk scored goals for Detroit.
Sharks 3, Avalanche 1: At San Jose, Calif., Patrick Marleau had a goal and two assists and San Jose defeated Colorado.
All-Stars Jonathan Cheechoo and Joe Thornton scored man-advantage goals for the Sharks.
