Safeway stores boost breast cancer help
Collections from area Safeway stores recently raised $115,120 for the Deaconess and Valley Healthcare Foundation to help pay for expanded treatment for breast cancer.
The funds will pay for a breast MR coil, special equipment for the area’s only 3T medical resonance imaging scanner at the Spokane Advanced Imaging Institute, or SII. The equipment is expected to help detect breast cancer earlier and more accurately.
Safeway staff and patrons washed cars, sold pink ribbons, held bake sales and scooped the messy insides of jack-o-lanterns to raise the funds in October.
SAII is a joint venture between Empire Health Systems, Spokane Radiology Consultants and National Medical Development Inc. of Bellevue, Wash.
