Monarchs too much again for struggling Storm

The Sacramento Monarchs had six players score in double figures in an 82-76 win over the Seattle Storm on Friday night in Sacramento, Calif.

Rebekkah Brunson had 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Yolanda Griffith added 13 points and three steals for the Monarchs, who beat the Storm for the second time in four days.

Betty Lennox had 18 points, Izaine Castro Marques added 12 points, and Janell Burse had 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Storm.

Lauren Jackson, the league’s leading scorer, left the game with a groin injury in the second quarter.

Mystics 80, Liberty 68: At Washington, Alana Beard scored 24 points and Nakia Sanford scored 16 points to help the Mystics defeat New York. Washington snapped a two-game losing streak and moved into fifth place in the Eastern Conference.

Comets 66, Sparks 56: At Houston, Tina Thompson scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Comets to a win over Los Angeles. Houston shot just 32.8 percent from the field in the win.

Shock 66, Sky 60: At Chicago, Plenette Pierson scored 15 points to help Detroit beat the Sky. Swin Cash had 14 points, eight rebounds and six assists for Detroit, which has won four straight and 11 of 12.
