Red Sox 5, Orioles 2: At Baltimore, Wily Mo Pena hit a grand slam in the eighth inning to rally Boston as Josh Beckett became the majors’ first five-game winner. The Red Sox trailed 2-1 before Pena hit a shot to center off Chris Ray (2-2) that traveled an estimated 430 feet.

Blue Jays 6, Yankees 0: At New York, Yankees pitcher Phil Hughes allowed four runs and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings in his debut as last-place New York lost its sixth straight. A.J. Burnett (2-1) allowed four hits, walked four and struck out five in seven innings. Missing injured Derek Jeter, the Yankees (8-12) are on their longest skid since 2005.

Indians 9, Rangers 4: At Cleveland, Sammy Sosa hit two homers to reach 594 for his career, but Paul Byrd and Cleveland won their fifth straight. Byrd allowed three runs and eight hits, walked one and struck out three. The Rangers twice put a runner at third base with none out and failed to score against Byrd.

Angels 11, Devil Rays 3: At Anaheim, Calif., Bartolo Colon struck out 11 and Vladimir Guerrero homered during a five-run first inning for the Angels. Colon allowed four hits in seven innings, including a two-run homer by Carlos Pena.

Twins 1, Royals 0 (11): At Minneapolis, Mike Redmond hit the game-winning, run-scoring single as Minnesota defeated Kansas City to snap a four-game losing streak. Redmond finished 2 for 5. Juan Rincon pitched a scoreless 11th for Minnesota.

Tigers at White Sox, ppd.: The Detroit at Chicago game was rained out. The game was called about four hours before it was supposed to start.
