Romo gets nod as Cowboys QB

Tony Romo is now the first-string quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, and will make his first career start Sunday night at Carolina.

Coach Bill Parcells said Wednesday that Romo, who replaced 14-year veteran Drew Bledsoe in the second half of Monday night’s 36-22 loss to the New York Giants, will start.

“Any time you do something like this, it’s not without a lot of consideration,” Parcells said. “I’ve been thinking about it for some time. … Hopefully, maybe as the team is comprised right now, he might be able to do a couple of things that assist us.”

CHL to adopt anti-doping policy

The Canadian Hockey League is entering into an agreement with the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport to develop and adopt a CHL Drug Education and Anti-Doping Policy.

The adoption of such a policy would be the first step in the implementation of a comprehensive drug education and anti-doping program that would apply to all three leagues in the CHL: Western Hockey League (WHL); Ontario Hockey League (OHL); and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). The QMJHL has been running a similar pilot program since 2004.

As a CHL player, depending on the substance, the league is looking at five- to 10-game sanctions for first violations.

Eastern third in preseason polls

The Eastern Washington men’s basketball team was picked third for the upcoming Big Sky Conference season.

In close balloting by the coaches and media, Northern Arizona and Montana were 1-2, or 2-1, with Eastern right behind.

The coaches picked NAU, reigning regular-season champion, by one point over UM, both with four first-place votes and separated by one point. EWU had the other first-place vote and was four points behind the Grizzlies, who won the conference tournament.

Select your WSU bowl site

The Cougars are just one win away from becoming eligible for a bowl game. Being that the Pac-10 has more bowls in the bag than your Tupperware salesperson, one more win will almost assuredly ensure them a trip somewhere.

Where would you like that to be?

San Francisco for the Emerald Bowl on Dec. 27? How about Hawaii on Christmas Eve? San Diego for the Holiday Bowl on Dec. 28 or the Las Vegas Bowl on Dec. 21? No, you can’t say El Paso on Dec. 29 (just because) or a BCS bowl (because, barring an epic collapse, that’s going to Cal or USC).
