No. 11 ASU routs Nicholls State
Kirsten Thompson scored 14 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead No. 11 Arizona State over Nicholls State 91-46 Wednesday night in Tempe, Ariz.
Aubree Johnson (Post Falls) added 16 points and seven rebounds for the Sun Devils (4-0), who stretched their home-court winning streak to 26 games.
Central Valley High graduate Emily Westerberg added eight points, six rebounds and four assists for the Sun Devils.
Jamie Octave finished with 16 points and Dominique Washington had 14 points and seven rebounds for the Colonels (0-2).
Danielle Orsillo and Thompson each made a pair of baskets in an 8-0 run to get Arizona State out to an early 12-4 lead.
The Sun Devils then ran off nine- and 12-point spurts en route to a 48-18 lead at halftime.
(9) Georgia 89, North Carolina A&T 35: At Athens, Ga., Cori Chambers scored 22 points, including six 3-pointers, and the Lady Bulldogs (2-0) cruised to a win over the Aggies (1-1).
Megan Darrah added 20 for Georgia, which used a 13-0 run to take a 23-5 lead with 8:25 left in the first half.
Ahmad Williams led North Carolina A&T with 11 points. The Aggies turned the ball over 30 times.
(12) Purdue 68, N.C. State 38: At West Lafayette, Ind., Katie Gearlds scored 14 points and the Boilermakers (3-0) beat the Wolfpack (2-1) to advance to the Preseason WNIT championship game.
Erin Lawless and Danielle Campbell added 12 apiece for the Boilermakers (3-0).
Purdue will play the winner of today’s BYU-Baylor game Sunday or Monday in the championship game.
