Music: Three-day jazz fest starts tonight

Spokane’s CenterStage goes New Orleans starting tonight for the three-day Think Swing! Jazz Festival.

An assortment of players straight from the streets of New Orleans will present traditional sounds from the ‘20s, ‘30s and ‘40s with a modern flair.

The schedule:

“Today: The Palmetto Bug Stompers (traditional New Orleans jazz), 7 p.m., $25

“Friday: St. Louis Slim (swing/jump jazz), 7 p.m., $19; New Orleans Jazz Vipers (neo-traditional New Orleans jazz), 9:30 p.m., $30 ($45 for both shows)

“Saturday: St. Louis Slim (Delta blues), 7 p.m., $19; Linnzi Zaorski and Delta Royale (neo-traditional vocal jazz), 9:30 p.m., $30 ($45 for both shows)

A New Orleans-themed cabaret and drink menu also will be available for an extra charge.

EWU Jazz Dialogue

Eastern Washington University presents its annual Jazz Dialogue Festival today through Saturday on the Cheney campus.

Daylong clinics, workshops and rehearsals in the Music Building will be followed by concerts each night at 8 in Showalter Auditorium.

Featured guests include pianist Dana Landry and his trio, along with Reggie Thomas, piano, and Mardra Thomas, vocals, tonight; Clay Jenkins, trumpet, Friday; and Andy Martin, trombone, Saturday.
