Freeman rallies, sets up title match with Colfax

Freeman rallied to earn a spot in the district championship game.

Kelsey Raines’ two-out single in the top of the seventh scored Megan Coumont as Freeman scored three times in the final two innings to beat Kettle Falls 3-2 in first-round action of the District 7 1A softball tournament at Colfax on Monday.

Kristin Nooner’s two-out single in the top of the sixth scored two runs for the Scotties (12-9) to tie the game at 2.

In other games, Kari Johnson threw a complete game, allowing one run on three hits and three strikeouts, as Colfax beat Newport 14-1 in five innings in the first round of district play. … Liz Beardslee threw a complete game, allowing one run and four hits and striking out six and went 2 for 2 with an RBI as Kettle Falls (11-11) beat Newport 8-1 in five innings in a loser-out matchup. … The district title game between Colfax and Freeman was rained out. The game will be made up today at noon at Franklin Park. The winner will be the district’s No. 1 seed to the State 1A tournament. The loser will take on Kettle Falls at 2 p.m. in a loser-out match, also at Franklin Park, to determine the district’s second seed to state.

District 9 B playoffs: Shelby Puckett hit an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth to tie it, and Rachel Rambo’s RBI single in the bottom of the sixth put Tekoa-Oakesdale/Rosalia (14-8) ahead for good as the Nighthawks earned a 3-1 win over Asotin (11-14) in a loser-out matchup at Tekoa. Sue Hodges threw a complete game, allowing one unearned run on one hit for Tekoa-Oakesdale/Rosalia. The Nighthawks will take on DeSales, which lost 6-0 to Colton at Lewiston, today in a loser-out matchup at 4 p.m. at Lawrence Scott Field in Kennewick. … Dottie Kite was 3 for 4 with three RBIs as Garfield-Palouse (16-8) scored an 8-2 win in a loser-out contest against Prescott at Garfield. The Vikings will play Dayton in a loser-out game at 4 p.m. today on Lawrence Scott Field in Kennewick. The winners of the Tekoa-Oakesdale/Rosalia vs. DeSales and Garfield-Palouse vs. Dayton games will play each other, with the winner the third seed to state and the loser out. … Touchet, which scored a win over Dayton, will take on Colton today in Kennewick for the No. 1 seed to state. The loser is the second seed to state.
