SEATTLE – Ichiro Suzuki and Jeremy Reed both hesitated just long enough to give the Colorado Rockies a fitting conclusion to interleague play.

Brad Hawpe’s two-out sinking liner in the top of the 11th fell in between Suzuki and a diving Reed, allowing Matt Holliday to score from second in the Rockies’ 4-3 win over the Seattle Mariners on Sunday.

Both Suzuki and Reed made aggressive initial moves toward the liner, but there appeared to be a miscommunication over who would take the ball. Reed’s diving effort might land him on the disabled list after he broke his right thumb when he landed awkwardly.

Reed is scheduled to see a hand specialist in Seattle today.

J.D. Closser followed with a single to shallow center, just over the head of second baseman Jose Lopez, to score Hawpe with what proved to be the winning run. The Rockies took two of three from the M’s and finished interleague play 11-4, the best record in the National League.

Suzuki hit his sixth home run in the bottom of the 11th off reliever Scott Dohmann, but Ray King picked up his first save since 2001 when he got Raul Ibanez to fly out to the warning track in center for the final out.

Suzuki was 6 for 11 with two homers and a triple in the three-game series.
