North Carolina State keeps Boston College winless in ACC

Cedric Simmons was 6 for 6 from the field and scored 17 points for North Carolina State on Tuesday night as the 18th-ranked Wolfpack beat No. 15 Boston College 78-60 in Boston, leaving the Eagles winless in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Cameron Bennerman scored 14 points and Tony Bethel went 4 for 6 from 3-point range and had seven rebounds for N.C. State (13-2, 2-1). The Wolfpack, who lost to North Carolina on Saturday to snap a seven-game winning streak, play four ranked teams in a span of six games, including No. 1 Duke next Wednesday.

Jared Dudley had 16 points and nine rebounds, and Craig Smith scored 14 points for BC (11-4, 0-3) in its ACC home opener.

(20) North Carolina 64, Virginia Tech 61: In Blacksburg, Va., freshman Tyler Hansbrough scored four of his 20 points in the final 1:07 and grabbed nine rebounds as North Carolina (10-2, 2-0 ACC) posted its 18th consecutive victory over the Hokies (10-6, 0-3).

Virginia Tech got 17 points from Wyton Witherspoon in his first start of the season and 13 from Zabian Dowdell, but failed to get several rebounds after misses by the Tar Heels in the final minute, allowing North Carolina to win its fourth straight.

(21) Wisconsin 64, Minnesota 62: In Minneapolis, Alando Tucker had 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Badgers (13-2, 3-0 Big Ten) to a victory over the Golden Gophers (9-4, 0-2).

Vincent Grier had 17 points and 11 rebounds and reserve Rico Tucker had 17 points and four steals for Minnesota.

Missouri 71, No. 22 Oklahoma 69: In Norman, Okla., Marshall Brown scored a career-high 21 points, including two free throws with 1.8 seconds left that lifted the Tigers (9-4, 2-0 Big 12) over the Sooners (9-4, 0-2) for their fifth straight victory.

Thomas Gardner, the Big 12’s leading scorer at 19.9 points per game, added 21 points for Missouri.

Women

Renee Montgomery scored 20 points to lead four Connecticut starters in double figures, and the No. 7 Huskies (13-2, 3-0 Big East) beat the Seton Hall Pirates (5-9, 2-1) in South Orange, N.J.

(20) Notre Dame 67, Marquette 65 (OT): In South Bend, Ind., Megan Duffy hit a running layup as the buzzer sounded to give the Fighting Irish (10-4, 1-2 Big East) an overtime win over the Golden Eagles (10-4, 1-2), snapping a three-game losing streak.
