Around the Pac-10

Stanford coach Trent Johnson said he hadn’t used the play that got the Cardinal into overtime against Washington on Saturday before. A call that looked remarkably similar to Valparaiso in the NCAA Tournament a few years ago, Stanford threw a long inbound pass, then a short shovel to set up a game-tying 3-point attempt. Washington fouled Chris Hernandez on the shot, and the senior calmly drilled all three free throws to send the game to overtime. “We use it all the time in practice,” Johnson said. Oregon State head coach Jay John said his team is still trying to mold a new identity with point guard Lamar Hurd out of the lineup, a predicament all too familiar to Washington State. … USC’s wins at Oregon and Oregon State last week made for the Trojans’ first Pac-10 road sweep in five years.
