Commission Welcomes Funding Input

The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission will conduct the third of four meetings to solicit ideas for changes in the park system’s funding tonight at Spokane Falls Community College.

Park system conditions, visitor service expectations, opportunities created by the Legislature and ways to improve parks will be discussed.

The meeting will be held in the Student Union Building, room 17. The commission asks those planning to attend to telephone Pamela McConkey (360) 902-8595.

Safety workshops offered

The Coeur d’Alene office of the American Red Cross will conduct the first of four healthy and safety workshops for hunters Thursday at its headquarters, 212 S. 11th St.

The 2-hour workshop, which will begin at 3 p.m., is designed as a supplement to first aid, covering problems that arise when injury occurs more than 30 minutes away from help. Topics will include emergency shelters, signaling, stabilizing injured persons and moving the injured.

There is an $18 charge. However, there is a $5 discount for participants holding a valid fishing or hunting license. Identical sessions are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 9, Oct. 16, and Oct. 28.

Trestle Creek road closes

Forest road 275, the Trestle Creek road near Hope, Idaho, is being closed periodically for repairs, according to USFS officials.

The road will continue be closed weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to replace culverts between mile marker 3 and mile marker 8. The project will be completed Sept. 19.

Tournament scheduled

Registration forms are available for the Sporting Clay Classic, scheduled for Sept. 27 at Landt Farms in Nine Mile Falls.

Open to anyone of any age who likes the sport of shotgun shooting, the tournament costs $75 and includes lunch and a hat, as well as 10 10-shot rounds. Prizes will be awarded in junior and adult classifications. The junior class will match shooters ages 12-17.

Proceeds of the tournament, sponsored by the Inland Northwest Council of the Boy Scouts of America, will be used to support the council’s shooting sports programs.
