Rev. Eugene Mulligan, S.M.M. Spokane

Vigil service for the Rev. Eugene Mulligan, S.M.M., will be at 7 p.m. today at Our Lady of Lourdes Cathedral. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the cathedral with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The Rev. Mulligan, 82, died Friday.

He was born in New York City.

He was ordained in 1942 in Ottawa, Ontario, as a member of the Montfort Fathers.

He served as professor and vocations director in Bay Shore, N.Y., from 1942 to 1957.

In 1962, he moved to Spokane to be retreat master at Immaculate Heart Retreat House. He became novice master and director of Brothers of Charity of Spokane in 1963.

The Rev. Mulligan served as pastor of St. Mary’s Presentation Parish in Deer Park from 1969 to 1973 and St. Charles Parish from 1973 to 1977. He retired in 1978 but continued as spiritual director at Bishop White Seminary for several more years.

He is survived by his brother, Phil Mulligan of Stuart, Fla.

Frank Willmering Spokane

Visitation for Frank R. Willmering, 69, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Willmering, who died Thursday, was born in Spokane.

He graduated from North Central High School and attended trade school for two years.

He worked as the pressroom superintendent at The Spokesman-Review before retiring in 1991 after 44 years.

Mr. Willmering served in the Navy during World War II and was a member of the Spokane Enological Society.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Darleen Willmering; a son, Richard Willmering Sr., and two daughters, Holly Willmering and Roxanne Hilderbrand, all of Spokane; a brother, Gerald Willmering of Spokane; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sister Peter Claver Endowment Fund in care of Sacred Heart Development Fund.

Ellert Meissner Spokane

Memorial service for Ellert H. Meissner, 75, was Monday at Messiah Lutheran Church.

Born in Racine, Wis., Mr. Meissner died Thursday.

He received a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Washington State University and later attended the University of Washington.

He had lived in Spokane for 48 years and worked as a state vocational rehabilitation counselor for eight years. He previously had worked for the state Department of Social and Health Services. He retired in 1977.

Mr. Meissner served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the Elks and Moose lodges, Messiah Lutheran Church and the Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Hildur Meissner; three sons, Paul Meissner of Spokane, Gary Meissner of Fall City, Wash., and Scott Meissner of Boise; a daughter, Kristie Jensen of Spokane; a brother, Lawrence Meissner of Racine; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church.

William Large Spokane

Funeral Mass for William Joseph Large, 86, was Monday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Burial was at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Large, a 12-year Spokane resident, died Thursday.

He was born in Pagosa Springs, Colo.

He was an officer in the Machinists Union for many years in Richland and worked at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation from 1943 until he retired.

Mr. Large was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Large; four sons, Ernest Large of Spokane, William Large of Anaheim, Calif., Dennis Large of Eugene, Ore., and Joseph Large of Tenino, Wash.; two daughters, Delores Large of Spokane and Patri DeVargis-Walker of Vancouver, Wash.; four sisters, Katherine Derfler and Nina Ginter, both of Kennewick, Lucille Suazo of Richland and Mattie Galvez of Colorado; 23 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery.

Cletes (Clark) Pearson Spokane

Vigil service for Cletes (Clark) Pearson, 79, will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Memorial Mass is planned for 7:30 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Private inurnment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. Pearson died Saturday. She was born in Dodson, Mont., and moved to Spokane with her family.

In 1937, she married John Pearson.

She worked at the Spokane County Auditor’s Office and the administration offices of Gonzaga University and Ferris High School. She retired as office manager for the law firm of Hamblen, Gilbert and Brooke. Her husband died in 1990.

Mrs. Pearson is survived by two daughters, Barbara Lucas of Portland and Ellen Klohe of Spokane; a son, Robert Pearson of Coronado, Calif.; a brother, Jack Clark of Arcadia, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

Myrtle ‘Polly’ Keye Nine Mile Falls

Memorial service for Myrtle Marie “Polly” Keye, 96, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church at the corner of Ramsey Road and Hanley Avenue in Coeur d’Alene. English Funeral Chapel of Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Keye, who was born in Michigan, N.D., died Sunday.

She moved to Farragut. Idaho, in 1947 from Pennsylvania before moving to Coeur d’Alene in 1949. She moved to Spokane in 1993 to be near her daughter.

She was a homemaker and a member of the United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son, Richard Keye of Reno, Nev.; a daughter, Dorothy Perry of Deer Park; three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-granchild.

Gordon ‘Pete’ Pederson Spokane

Memorial service for Gordon “Pete” Pederson, 79, was Wednesday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North.

Mr. Pederson, who died Sept. 15, was a 40-year Spokane resident.

He was born in Spooner, Minn.

He served in the Army and the Army National Guard.

Mr. Pederson was a manager with Sears for 35 years. He retired in 1979.

He was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and the Spokane Southeast Lions Club.

Mr. Pederson is survived by his wife of 53 years, Burnette Pederson; two daughters, Helen Campbell of Bellingham and Judy Henning of Shoreline, Wash.; a sister, Lois Alexander of Clinton, Mich.; and five grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane or St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.

Darolyn Woodison Beaverton, Ore.

Service for Darolyn Rae Woodison, 62, was Saturday at Southwest Hills Baptist Church in Beaverton. Burial was at Crescent Grove Cemetery in Tigard, Ore.

Mrs. Woodison, a former Spokane resident, died Thursday.

She was born in Spokane and moved to Oregon 25 years ago.

Mrs. Woodison worked in the banking industry.

She is survived by her husband, Jim Woodison; her mother, Marion Jones of Spokane; three daughters, Kristi Haddeman of San Diego, Pam Hongle of Hockinson, Wash., and Laurie Jackson of San Francisco; four sons, Steve Harding of Los Angeles, Jeff Harding and James Woodison, both of Tigard, Ore., and Scott Woodison of Tualatin, Ore.; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

LeRoy Elledge Spokane

Private burial is planned for LeRoy V. Elledge, 87. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Bozeman, Mont., Mr. Elledge died Thursday.

He moved to Spokane as a child and graduated from Cheney High School. He attended Cheney Normal School for one year.

During and after World War II, he worked at the Bremerton shipyards and was in charge of five tool shops.

He retired in 1974 and returned to Spokane.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Melba Elledge, and a sister, Irene Reynolds of Seattle.

Tommy Sullivan Spokane

Memorial service for Tommy P. Sullivan, 64, will be at 10 a.m. today at Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Sullivan died Friday.

He was born in Ione, S.D.

He served in the Marines during the Korean War and worked for the Postal Service until he retired in 1976.

Mr. Sullivan moved to Spokane 16 years ago.

Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Lorraine Sullivan; his mother, Louise Gibson of Spokane; two daughters, Debbie Windsor of Spokane and Denise Cruz of San Diego; two sons, James Sullivan of Spokane and David Felten of Albuquerque, N.M.; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Chad Hurley Spokane

No service will be held for Chad M. Hurley, 23.

Hennessey Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hurley died Thursday.

He was born in Davenport, Iowa.

Mr. Hurley had lived in Spokane for 20 years and graduated from Central Valley High School.

He worked as a car salesman.

He is survived by his father and stepmother, Steven and Sandra Hurley of Spokane; his mother, Nancy Hurley of Davenport, Iowa; a brother, Jeff Hurley of Spokane; three stepbrothers, Rick Carlton of Spokane, and Rod and Dean Carlton, both of Dunlap, Calif.; two sisters, Sherry Bowerson of Spokane and Stephanie Jeppson of Medical Lake; and two stepsisters, Vicki and Traci Carlton, both of Spokane.

Richard Osweiler Issaquah, Wash.

Memorial service for Richard B. Osweiler, a former Spokane resident, was Monday at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Issaquah.

Mr. Osweiler, 78, died Thursday.

He was born in Fairmont, Minn.

In 1950, he married Patricia Corbin in Poplar, Mont.

He worked as a salesman for J.K. Gill and lived in Spokane from 1967 to 1987 and in Vancouver, Wash., from 1987 until January, when the family moved to Issaquah.

Mr. Osweiler was a member of the Cougar Club.

He is survived by his wife of of 45 years, Patricia; two daughters, Ann Brokaw of Redmond, Wash., and Mary Shimchick of Issaquah; and three grandchildren.
