Cops Plan Traffic Crackdown
Nearly three-quarters of Spokane drivers use seat belts, according to a recent survey.
For a 10-day period beginning later this week, traffic cops will crack down on the other 25 percent.
Officers with the Washington State Patrol, city police and county sheriff’s department will launch their second Three Flags Enforcement Blitz of the year Friday.
Until Oct. 6, they will be looking extra hard for people who speed, drive while drunk and don’t use their seat belts.
The survey - conducted this summer as part of the first installment of the Three Flags program - found that 74 percent of Spokane drivers wore safety belts, police spokesman Dick Cottam said.
That’s below the state average of 81 percent, Cottam said.
The fine for not wearing a seat belt is $66. , DataTimes
