Skip Away Passes Classic
Skip Away, who would have been Cigar’s chief opponent in the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Woodbine in Toronto Oct. 26, will not run in the $4 million race.
Tuesday was the deadline for paying the first $160,000 of the $480,000 supplementary fee that would have made Skip Away eligible for the Classic. The 3-year-old colt, currently stabled at Keeneland, beat Cigar, last year’s horse of the year, in the Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park Oct. 5.
