Dollar Hits 32-Month High Vs. Yen

The dollar rose to a 32-month high against the Japanese yen Tuesday after a poll suggested the pro-business Liberal Democratic Party could win a majority in parliamentary elections this weekend.

Also helping the dollar against the yen was a general outflow of funds from Japan into other currencies. Some of that money bought pounds, helping the British currency continue its run against the dollar to set a new 12-month high.

The dollar also gained against the German mark.
