Panhandle Picks With Greg Lee
You’ll probably notice this report is a little shorter than usual. When you’re in a losing funk like myself you want to attract as little attention as possible.
I’m three behind the guests with four weeks to go. St. Maries Gazette Record publisher Dan Hammes picked eight of 10 correctly last week, nipping yours truly by one.
The scoreboard reads: Guests 40 of 51 (.784), Lee 37 of 51 (.725).
So I’ve got to make up ground immediately, but it won’t be easy this week as I take on Gary “Big Dad” Rasmussen, the longtime Coeur d’Alene High coach who retired last spring.
I’m going up against a pro. Rasmussen has been known to make a little money wagering on the ponies and the puppies.
A special spot in Rasmussen’s career occurred in the mid1960s when he was the head football coach at Clark Fork. Rasmussen’s Wampus Cats beat John Drager when Drager was in his first year as head coach at Mullan.
Coeur d’Alene at Sandpoint: No team has been able to stop the Bulldogs, and the Vikings, who play several players both ways, will find it difficult too. Sandpoint 49, CdA 24.
Guest: The Viks can win if they can stop Thielbahr. I don’t think they can. Sandpoint 48, CdA 17.
Lake City at Lewiston: Too much Brad Rice, Laki Ah Hi and speed will mean a long night for the Timberwolves. Lewiston 48, LC 17.
Guest: Lewiston is the best team in North Idaho. Lake City is getting better every game. But the Bengals are just too good. Lewiston 42, LC 10.
Lakeland at Bonners Ferry: The Hawks will extend their streak against the Badgers to 15. Lakeland 20, BF 13.
Guest: Terry Kiefer’s Lakeland teams are always wellcoached. This game should go down to the wire. Lakeland 21, Bonners Ferry 19.
