Plummer Gets Grant To Fix Sewer System
Plummer has been awarded a $180,000 state grant to repair 30-year-old sections of its sewer system.
Gov. Phil Batt announced the grant, part of $3.3 million in aid going to 13 cities and counties. Plummer is the only North Idaho city to receive a grant.
Plummer Mayor Harold Whitley said the grant will help the city pay for the $350,000 project. Workers will repair or replace manholes and sewer lines on the north side of town. The city has had increasing problems with storm water flowing into holes in the sewer pipes.
“It goes into our lines and overloads the (sewage treatment) system,” said Whitley.
Built in the late 1980s, Plummer’s sewer system can accommodate 2,500 households, Whitley said. There are only about 800 households on the system now. Shutting out the storm water will restore the plant’s capacity to accommodate future growth.
“It’ll pretty well solve our problem,” the mayor said.
Work should start in a few weeks and last two months, he said.
