State Approves More Speed Limit Changes
Motorists will be able to travel a little faster - legally - on 14 more stretches of state and federal highways.
The Idaho Transportation Board, continuing its review of speed limits on Idaho’s 5,000-mile highway system, on Friday approved more speed limit changes. Limits on 600 miles of major highways and the 614 miles of interstate routes were increased in April.
Speed limits went from 55 mph to 65 mph on segments of U.S. Highway 20, U.S. 26 and U.S. 93. Limits also went up on Idaho 21, 22, 24, 26, 27, 28, 33, 46, 50, 75, 77 and 81.
The board also voted to revoke its previous decision allowing speeds of 65 mph on Interstate 184, the Boise Connector.
Boise police officers and others urged the board to retain the old 55 mph limit, contending the higher speed would make the connector unsafe.
