Local Dieticians Recognized By State Dietetic Association

Two Spokane dieticians received statewide recognition for their “significant contributions to the dietetics profession” by the Washington State Dietetic Association.

Julie Muelheim was named Young Dietitian of the Year, awarded annually to two registered dietitians who are 35 years old or younger.

Muelheim, a 1996 graduate of Eastern Washington University, is employed as assistant director of Food and Nutrition Services at Sacred Heart Medical Center. She has served on the board of the Greater Spokane Dietetic Association and is chairperson for the Inland Northwest Clinical Nutrition Managers Practice Group.

Dorothy Ross was named Dietetic Technician of the Year. Ross, who holds an A.A. degree from Spokane Community College and a B.S. degree from Eastern Washington University, is the coordinator for the Women, Infants and Children’s program for the West Central neighborhood.

Edward D. Johnson has graduated from the University of Washington’s School of Medicine.

Johnson, a 1988 graduate of University High School, will do his three-year residency in family practice at Family Medicine Spokane.

He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas E. Johnson.

Ron and Julie Wells received the 1996 Hospice of Spokane Trustees Award for the willingness of the Wells’ company to support Hospice with fund-raising activities.

Other awards presented by Hospice at its annual dinner went to Gerry Cain, who received the Spirit of Hospice Award; Jean Davidson, the Distinguished Service Award; and Sandra Diffenbacher, Special Projects Award.

Joyce Towne has been elected president of the American Society of Women Accountants.

Other newly elected officers are: Jody Ervin, vice president; Lisa Vaughn, secretary; and Carma Knapp, treasurer. Directors are Sharon Bishop, Helen Boehme, Angie Hughes and Donna Tissue.
