Shadow’s Stingy Goalkeeper Honored Again

For the second time this season, Spokane Shadow goalkeeper John Nagel has been named to the USISL Premier League Team of the Week.

Nagle, who was honored for his play during the week of June 11-18, made four saves in as many attempts in Saturday’s shootout win over the Cascade Surge.

The victory was Spokane’s sixth in a row.

Nagel has allowed more than one goal just once during the six-game winning streak.

Golf

After the second round of the Mission Junior Golf Tournament at Rancho Mirage, Calif., Spokane’s Andy Hastings is nine shots off the lead with a two-day score of 149.

Hastings shot a 75 Tuesday and a 74 Wednesday.

Spokane’s Britney Holt and Brenda Hall are eight and 10 shots off the lead, respectively, in the Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship at Alton, Ill.

Holt shot an opening-round 77 on the par-72 course while Hall shot 79.

Baseball

Luis Figueroa, a 19-year-old from Carolina, Puerto Rico, went 3 for 4 and drove in two big runs in the fourth inning as Everett beat Spokane 8-4 in a Northwest League game at Everett Memorial Stadium. The AquaSox win avenged a 9-1 opening-night setback Tuesday.

Figueroa, who wears a hearing aid on his left ear, singled to center on a 1-2 pitch in the fourth after Indians reliever Brandon Baird looked like he might escape a jam. The single drove in two runs and gave Everett a 5-2 lead.
