Seattle Signs Pritchard
The Seattle Seahawks signed unrestricted free agent Mike Pritchard, a wide receiver.
Pritchard has 253 receptions for 2,899 yards and 18 touchdowns in five years in the NFL.
Pritchard was a first-round draft choice of the Atlanta Falcons in 1991 and played the last two seasons with the Denver Broncos.
The University of Montana’s Dave Dickenson is “virtually assured” of making the Calgary Stampeders roster, but probably won’t be on the 36-player active squad for the team’s Canadian Football League opener Sunday night, the Great Falls (Mont.) Tribune reported.
The three-time NCAA Division I-AA All-American and 1995 Walter Payton Award winner, who led Montana to its first national championship last December, was not chosen in the April NFL draft.
He is battling starter Jeff Garcia, a four-year CFL veteran, and 13-year veteran Danny Barrett for the two QB spots on the active roster. The Stampeders already have released three other quarterbacks.
Dickenson played about a quarter in two exhibition games, both wins for Calgary. He completed 5 of 9 passes for 62 yards and one touchdown against the Saskatchewan Roughriders on June 10, then completed 3 of 7 passes for 32 yards in a win at Vancouver, B.C., last Friday night.
Byron Evans announced he is retiring from the Philadelphia Eagles.
Evans, 32, has been unable to recover from a severe fracture of the right tibia and torn knee ligaments suffered while attempting to tackle Cleveland’s Leroy Hoard on Nov. 13, 1994.
Tommie Frazier, who quarterbacked Nebraska to two national titles, signed a one-year contract with the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL. xxxx
