Margaret Goodner Heads Theatre Ballet

Theatre Ballet of Spokane has appointed a new artistic director for its 1996-97 season.

Margaret Goodner, a longtime supporter of ballet in Spokane, has assumed the post of artistic leader for the upcoming season, commencing with the New Year’s Eve program “Ballet and Bubbly” at The Met.

Goodner has performed with several notable ballet companies, including the Connecticut Ballet, the Boston Ballet and the National Ballet of Ireland.

In Spokane, she was head of faculty at the former Spokane Ballet School. In addition, Goodner founded the Ballet Arts Academy in 1987. Last year, she was honored by the YWCA with its Outstanding Achievement Award for Arts and Culture.

Student showcase

Some of Spokane Falls Community College’s brightest talents are exhibiting their artwork at the SFCC Fine Arts Gallery through Friday.

The exhibit encompasses an assortment of media, such as sculptures, paintings, jewelry, illustrations …

An artists’ reception will be at 5 p.m. Friday, following the graduation ceremonies.

Summer workshop

Pullman’s Summer Palace Theatre program at Washington State University is conducting two drama workshops this summer for kids in grades two to nine.

Each session is from 10 to 11:30 a.m. five days a week for two weeks. The first session meets June 17-21 and June 24-28. The second session will assemble July 15-19 and July 22-26.

Art tour

Thirty-plus notable artists from across the land are displaying their work at NorthTown as part of a nationwide art tour presented by Holly Merrifield’s World of Fine Art.

Artists include Washington state’s train artist H.L. Scott, nationally known seascape artist Dae Cho, wood carver Julie Pieper and Montana photographer Tom Mussehl.

More than 1,500 art pieces will be displayed, many of which are for sale.
