Silver Valley Tumbles, 4-1

Tyler Hall scattered three hits and picked up a complete-game win Friday night as Strike Zone tripped host Silver Valley 4-1 in the Silver Valley Invitational American Legion baseball tournament being played in Osburn.

Hall’s splendid performance, which included five strikeouts, was backed by the hot bat of Jason Philipe, who banged out three hits and drove in two runs for the winners.

Silver Valley scored in the third inning when Kevin Lee scored on a throwing error.

College baseball

Gonzaga’s Steve Schorzman and Jerrod Wong were selected earlier this week in the major league’s amateur baseball draft.

Schorzman, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound right-handed pitcher, was picked by the Chicago White Sox in the 11th round. Wong, a 6-3, 215-pound left-handed pitcher-outfielder, was taken by the Atlanta Braves in the 33rd round.

Schorzman, a junior transfer from North Idaho College, finished 2-1 in his lone season at GU and posted an earned-run average of 7.77. Wong, a senior, finished 1-4 with a 7.91 ERA as a pitcher and batted .315 with eight home runs and 46 runs batted in.
