Dorothy Hammel Decatur, Ala.
Memorial service for Dorothy Irene Hammel, 80, will be at 2 p.m. next Saturday at Country Homes Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park. Shelton Funeral Home in Decatur, Ala., is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Hammel, who was a resident of Spokane for more than 50 years, died Wednesday.
She was born in Glasgow, Mont. She worked as a private nurse and was a 40-year member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses.
She is survived by a daughter, Margaret Ford of Decatur, Ala.; three brothers, Eugene Young and Earl Young, both of Spokane, and James Young of Moreno Valley, Calif.; two sisters, Ruth Cummings and Helen Mitchel, both of Spokane; and two grandchildren.
Natalie Mace Moses Lake
A private memorial service for Natalie Ingrid Mace, 17, will be at 2 p.m. today in Spokane. Kayser’s Chapel of Memories in Moses Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
Born in Spokane, she died Tuesday from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
She attended Shadle Park High School and Moses Lake High School.
She is survived by her parents, Pat and Deanna Mace of Moses Lake; one sister, Danae Mace of Moses Lake; and grandparents, Bill and Bernadette Butler, and Sharon Mace, all of Spokane.
Gladys Giedt Spokane
Memorial service for Gladys M. Giedt, 88, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hayford Community Church. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Giedt, who was born in Bozeman, Mont., died Aug. 6.
Mrs. Giedt graduated from Central Valley High School and taught at Williams School. She also worked as a postal clerk at Fairfield.
Her husband, Oscar Giedt, preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Lashua of Shoreline, Wash., and Evelyn Russell of Spokane; a son, Ronel Giedt of Chicago; two sisters, Marge Rohde of Corvallis, Ore., and Faye Baxter of Spokane; a brother, Leon Vandiver of Spokane; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Betty Croft Spokane
Memorial service for Betty Jean Croft, 69, will be at 3 p.m. today at Hazen and Jager Funeral Home.
Mrs. Croft, who was born in Kersey, Colo., died Thursday.
She retired as a thrift store manager for the Salvation Army. She also worked for Senior Chore Services.
Mrs. Croft was a 20-year member of the Ladies Bunco Club.
Mrs. Croft is survived by her husband of 50 years, W.F. Croft; three sons, Daniel Croft, Charles Croft and Robert Croft, and two daughters, Brenda Ford and Wilma Millick, all of Spokane; one sister, six brothers, 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Jessie Peterson Spokane
Service for Jessie E. Peterson, 72, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Peterson, who was born in Harwood, Wash., died Wednesday.
She graduated from Providence Academy in Vancouver, Wash. She then was a homemaker and had worked at Rockwood Manor in the sales department.
Mrs. Peterson was a member of the First Covenant Church.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Arnold Peterson; three daughters, Judy Shaw of Seattle, Shirley Robbins of Whitman Air Force Base, Mo., and Peggy Kettleson of Spokane; a son, Robert Peterson of Malayasia; two sisters, Laura Robinson of California and Etta Peplow of Arizona; and seven grandchildren.
Patricia Mills Spokane
Memorial service for Patricia Ann Mills, 59, will be mid-afternoon on Sunday at the home at 1018 E. Rowan. Cremation will precede. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Mills, who was born in Jamestown, N.D., died Thursday.
She was a homemaker and a 28-year resident of Spokane.
Survivors include three daughters, Pamela Anderson of Everett, and Laura Jean Sanders and Doris Louise Mills, both of Spokane; two sons, Clifford Brian Mills of Seattle and Jerry Scott Mills of Spokane; her brother, Harold Gene Burnett of Lewiston; her sister, Diane Dusvenberg of Clarkston, Wash.; two grandsons and five granddaughters.
Elaine Glover Spokane
Visitation for Elaine June Glover, 63, will be today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Riplinger Funeral Home. A private service will be held at a later date. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Glover, who was born in Iowa City, Iowa, died Wednesday.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by four daughters, Linda Nelson, Loverta Ebner, Theresa Marquette and Kathleen Nance, and two sons, Lawrence Ebner and Richard Ebner, all of Spokane; her mother, Bernice Mateer of Usk, Wash.; two sisters, Evelyn Brown of Spokane and Marion Swanson of Usk; two brothers, Jack Mateer of Bellingham and Phillip Mateer of Usk; numerous grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Carl Shield Clark Fork, Idaho
Service for Carl Shields, 81 will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at the Clark Fork Methodist Church. Burial will be at the Clark Fork Cemetery.
Mr. Shields, who was born in Cabinet, Idaho, died Thursday in Sandpoint.
He graduated from Clark Fork High School.
Mr. Shields married Lustella Kilmer, in 1938 in Thompson Falls, Mont.
He had worked in logging, mining, carpentry, and hydroelectric and nuclear plant construction. He retired in 1978.
Mr. Shields is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lustella, at home; three daughters, Karen Guilfoyle of Genesse, Idaho, Sharon Brixen of Grangeville, Idhao, and Becky Holt of Spokane; two sons, Dennis Shields of St. Regis, Mont., and John Shields of Coeur d’Alene; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Clark Fork Methodist Church.
Sarah Anderst Spokane
Graveside service for Sarah Margaret (Waggoner) Anderst, 92, will begin at 1 p.m. Monday at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Sandpoint. Coffelt Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Anderst, who was born in Bentonville, Ark., died Wednesday in Spokane.
She attended schools in Pineville, Mo.
She married Elzie Waggoner in 1922 in Benton County, Ark. They moved to Rupert, Idaho, in 1935 and to Cocolalla, Idaho, in 1946. He died in 1949.
Mrs. Anderst married John Anderst in 1963, and they lived in Filer, Idaho. He died, and she moved to Spokane in 1973.
She enjoyed sewing and making quilts.
She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Bonnie McCool of Spokane; four sons, Dale Waggoner of Soap Lake, Wash., Louis Waggoner of Newport, Wash., Carl Waggoner of Kennewick and John Waggoner of Newport; 23 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
Kenneth Knoll Seattle
Burial service for Kenneth Charles Knoll, a former Spokane resident, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Greenwood Cemetery in Spokane. Bleitz Funeral Home in Seattle is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Knoll, 90, died Aug. 11.
He born in Dumont, Iowa.
His family moved to Spokane in 1912 and he graduated from Lewis and Clark High School.
He worked for Diamond Match Co. and Fidelity National Bank before entering Whitworth College. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry.
In 1937, he married Margaret Jamison.
Mr. Knoll taught school for many years in Inchelium, Wellpinit and Omak, Wash., and then worked for the applied physics laboratory at the University of Washington.
In 1947, he went to work for the Atomic Energy Commission at Hanford, where he worked in nuclear waste disposal for more than 20 years.
He retired 1971 and returned to Spokane. His wife died in 1986, and in 1988 Mr. Knoll moved to Exeter House in Seattle.
In Spokane, he had volunteered at Cheney Cowles Museum, where he photographed and helped archive some of the museum’s collection. He had been active with Whitworth Community Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by three daughters, Eleanor Krystad of Seattle, Barbara Stuart of Olympia and Kathryn Thorndike of Kennewick; six grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Memorial contributions may be made to the scholarship fund of Whitworth College or to the Cheney Cowles Museum.
