Smith Dies Of Heart Attack
Derek Smith, who helped Louisville win the 1980 NCAA championship and then played in the NBA, died Friday of an apparent heart attack, a spokesman from the Kentucky school said. He was 34.
Smith, who was an assistant coach with the Washington Bullets last season, died while on a cruise with his family, Louisville spokesman Kenny Klein said. No other details were available.
Juwan Howard will be returning to the Washington Bullets after his controversial contract issue was resolved by an agreement among the NBA, the players union and the Miami Heat.
Miami confirmed it has “agreed on a settlement in the Juwan Howard case,” but had little else to say.
