Teenagers Arrested After Car Chase

A police pursuit of three Spokane girls who stole a Chevrolet Blazer ended when the driver lost control and crashed on the South Hill early Tuesday.

Two of the girls, both 15, were injured. One was in satisfactory condition Tuesday, Spokane Police spokesman Dick Cottam said. The other was released after hospital treatment for neck and head pain.

Three Idaho men, whose names were not released, left the Blazer with the girls while they went inside the Rosauers on East 29th to pick up some food. The men met the two 15-year-olds and a 14-year-old about 8:30 p.m. Monday at The Underground pool hall on East Second, Cottam said.

The men reported the Blazer missing about 3 a.m. after returning to the parking lot and finding it - and the girls - gone.

An hour later, a patrol officer spotted the Blazer near 11th and Perry. He activated his overhead lights and the Blazer sped away.

The Blazer’s driver traveled at speeds as high as 70 mph, running two red lights and at least six stop signs during the chase from Second and Browne to Upper Terrace.

The driver was heading north on Upper Terrace when she lost control, slammed into a tree, then crossed the road and struck an embankment. The Blazer was totaled.

All three girls will be cited in juvenile court on suspicion of vehicle theft, Cottam said.
