Pacific Northwest tribal canoe journey
The landing of about a dozen canoes from the south was one leg of the annual journey of tribal canoes from throughout the Salish Sea, heading to Swinomish, Wash. About 100 tribal canoes are expected to arrive there on July 25. Pacific Northwest tribes revived the canoe tradition in 1989 of bringing together to celebrate the connection to salmon, water and each other. It became an annual event in 1993.
